Mustang as Rally Car [ November 10th, 2009 ] By: Charles Smith Posted in » Videos

So Ford Motor Co contacted me and wanted to play up their 2010 Mustang. Surprisingly they had a Rally style competition between two guys in Mustangs. Here’s a video of it:

Link for you RSS peeps.

Now as for the competitiveness of the 2010 Mustang, there is no actual data supporting any claims. Utecht races a 1988 Mustang in the Central Group 5 series. He is a very good driver and has been winning events (and championships in the past) and is currently in 2nd for the Central Group 5 title. Unfortunately this says nothing for the 2010 Mustang as they have completely different frames, engines, suspensions, etc…

As for Hurst, while he does work for Rally America, I have been unable to find any info on him. I still prefer the Fiesta to the Mustang in terms of a Rally platform.

What To See in 2009 [ January 6th, 2009 ] By:Charles Smith

New Years bring new seasons of racing, new cars, new toys and new feats of engineering. There is plenty to look forward to in what is going to be a great year.

In contrast with Subaru leaving the WRC, American leagues (NASA and RA) will still feature Subarus as their most common race car (and possibly still their winningest).  With DIRT’s possible new entries into the sport such as their ProjectRS you’ll have plenty of new Subarus in NASA.

Fans of Petter Solberg will hopefully be able to watch his driving, albeit in most-likely a non Subaru as he is now a free agent. Rally Norway has even extended its entry deadline for Petter until January 13th.

Rally America is still expected to have its big names return: Travis Pastrana, Ken Block, Andrew Comrie-Picard and the not so well known Kyle Sarasin. So there will be plenty of competition to watch. Infact, with such big names dropping out of the WRC, Rally America could gain in popularity (world wide even).

2009 is set to be an exciting year. Do any of you have big rally plans this year?

Slowpoke News: C.McRae, WRC Germany and WRC New Zealand [ September 16th, 2008 ] By:Charles Smith

First off, Today was the one year anniversary of the legendary Colin McRae’s death. For those of you who have no idea, he died on September 15th, 2007 in a helicopter accident. He was the pilot and was accompanied by his son, his friend and his friend’s son. There are memorial stickers available, which I proudly display on my car.

Anyway, I am slow to report news, that however is not news. What is (old) news are the results from Rally Deutschland (aka Germany) and Rally New Zealand. Not unexpected, Sebastian Loeb continued his winning with both Germany and New Zealand rallies. Sordo, however, put up a great fight and followed Loeb in both events to 2nd place finishes. Mikko Hirvonen, not be left far behind in the points race, secured 3rd place in New Zealand and now trails in the overall standing by only 8 points. The pressure is still on Loeb for the remainder of the season. Third in Germany was snatched by Duval.

Somehow Loeb continues to win rallies in the WRC. Most everyone is being left in the dust by Loeb, who rarely makes a mistake. It really is amazing to watch Loeb throughout his stellar career and I’m eager to see what happens in Rally Spain this October.
